Boys Athletes of the Week:
What a ‘week one’ it was for Charter Oak’s Richie Munoz and St. Francis’ Jack Jacobs.
Richie Munoz, in his first start since transferring from La Salle, led COHS to a 38-24 victory over the defending CIF-SS Division 10 champs from Northview.
The Chargers’ senior threw for 370 yards and five TD’s.
Munoz had scoring tosses to Solomon Davis (14 yards), Isaiah Johnson (54), Jayden Alexander (7), Nathan Alvarado (20) and Zakkari Black (85) in Charter Oak’s season-opening victory.
He rushed for nearly 70 yards and had a potential sixth TD pass dropped in the east end zone at Covina District Field.
Jack Jacobs is off to a remarkable start to his senior year.
In two games, the Golden Knights offense has scored 93 points, and Jacobs’ nine TD passes are one less than his total for all of 2021.
On Friday night, Jacobs threw for 390 yards and five scores.
It was his 14-yard scoring strike to Jett McCullough with 20 seconds to play that lifted SFHS to a 52-48 victory at Mira Costa.
Jacobs threw two TD passes to Antonio Merlos and one each to John Calmette, Adam Sandoval and the game winner to McCullough.
Up next: Charter Oak and St. Francis will be in action on Friday night.
The Chargers host Glendora (0-2), and the Golden Knights travel to Long Beach Millikan (1-1).
