Things sure have fallen into place for the St. Francis football program.
After a rough start to the 2022 season, the Golden Knights are flying high.
On Friday, St. Francis clinched at least a share of the Angelus League championship after a 49-20 victory over visiting St. Paul.
And the Golden Knights got some help from Cathedral in defeating previously unbeaten (in league) Loyola, 21-3
The Swordsmen put up a valiant fight, and pulled to within 28-20 of the Golden Knights.
But SFHS got five total TD’s from Devyn Turner to pull away.
Turner rushed for 220 yards on 17 carries and that included TD runs of 35, 8, 5 and 18 yards.
Turner also caught a 55-yard TD pass from Jack Jacobs.
Jacobs completed 8-of-15 for 140 yards and 2 TD’s.
Jett McCullough, who picked a pass on defense, also caught a 45-yard TD pass from Jacobs.
Preston Jernegan always seems to find a way to do his part in Golden Knights’ wins.
And Friday was no different.
It was his 77-yard pick-six that put the game on ice.
Up next: St. Francis can clinch an outright Angelus League championship with a victory next Friday at Loyola.
