Congratulations to one of the truly good guys, Greg Dulcich.
The former St. Francis & UCLA receiver was the 80th pick at the NFL draft.
Dulcich was selected in the third round by the Denver Broncos.
An interesting side note: The Broncos general manager, George Paton, was a friend of the late-great Jim Bonds.
It was the same Jim Bonds who told Dulcich ‘no’ when Greg wanted so badly to lead the Golden Knights offense at quarterback.
And it wasn’t because Dulcich wasn’t good enough.
Bonds told his star senior (in 2017) that his career at the next level was at receiver/tight end.
JB couldn’t have been more right, and Dulcich came around to understand his coach had his best interest at heart.
In 2017, Dulcich and Bonds helped lead the program to its first CIF-SS title game appearance in over 50 years.
After his days at the La Canada school were over, Dulcich went on to play for Bonds’ alma mater (UCLA) for three years.
Dulcich left St. Francis at a wiry 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, but after countless hours in the weight room, he took the field for the Bruins with an additional 40 pounds of muscle.
On a personal note, I wanted to congratulate Dulcich, because as good as he is on a football field, he’s an even better young man.
Any time I needed a quote for a St. Francis story, good or bad, he’d find a way to get me what I needed in between his studies and practices at UCLA.
It goes without saying that his school, teachers, coaches, teammates and friends are so happy for and proud of him.
