ST. FRANCIS HIGH SCHOOL WELCOMES NEW HEAD TENNIS COACH
St. Francis High School is pleased to announce that Mr. Jong-Min Lee has been named as St. Francis High School’s new head tennis coach. Coach Lee currently works at Flint Canyon Tennis Club as a Tennis Professional where he has been teaching and coaching both juniors and adults for the past 8 years.
Coach Lee was born in Korea and moved to Australia at the age of 11 in order to train at an Academy in Melbourne. He went on to be ranked #1 in Australia from 1989-1995 in each division he played. In 1995, at the age of 18, he was not only the #1 ranked JR in Australia, but also in the world in both singles and doubles (ITF Juniors). Coach Lee not only has a very impressive Junior career, but also went on to play #1 for UCSB (where he was a two-time Big West Conference) and then for UCLA where he was a 2 time All-American and two-time 1st team Pac 10 conference player. Unfortunately, his professional career was cut short after college due to an elbow and back injury.
Opportunity to compete and practice with greats like Pete Sampras, Patrick Rafter, Sergi Bruguera, Monica Seles, and many others have helped Coach Lee realize the amount of hard work and dedication required to be a successful professional athlete both on and off the court. Coach Lee is married and a father of two boys. Being a father has given him a different perspective, responsibility, and joy of life; as well as a greater ability to appreciate each and every day.
Alum parent Alicia Lund notes that, "Coach Lee is very good at recognizing the little details to improve upon that really elevate your tennis. His competitive fire will resonate with the St Francis athletes, and he will be a great addition to the St Francis family."
“We are thrilled to have someone with Coach Lee’s background,” said St. Francis’ Athletic Director Matt Luderer. “His character and integrity, coupled with his vast tennis experience, was exactly what we were seeking in a leader for our tennis program.”
St. Francis High School welcomes Coach Lee into the Golden Knight family and is excited about the tremendous impact that he is going to have on the students, the tennis program, and the school.
