Patrick Donovan, ’03, begins his 16th season as head coach of the St. Francis Cross Country team. Patrick was a 4-year letterman for the Golden Knights in both Cross Country and Track and was a two-time Mission League Champion in the 800m as well as 2-year First Team All-Mission League athlete in Cross Country and Third-Team All-CIF in Cross Country. While at St. Francis he also participated in theater and student government.
After St. Francis, Patrick continued his running career at Elizabethtown College (Elizabethtown, PA) where he was a member of the Blue Jay’s Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track teams. In his twelve seasons of collegiate athletics, the Blue Jays won ten Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships. He was a two-time All American in track (Outdoor-800m & Indoor-Distance Medley Relay), seven-time MAC Champion (800m, 1500m, Mile, 4x400, 4x800), and earned All-MAC honors in track eighteen times. He graduated from Elizabethtown College in 2007 with a B.S. in Business Administration and a Minor in English.
Patrick returned to St. Francis in the fall of 2007 and began coaching Cross Country and Track and teaching in the English Department. After twelve years in the classroom, he transitioned to Director of Security & Facilities in 2019. While coaching at St. Francis the Cross Country team has moved onto the CIF SS Prelims seven times and has qualified for the CIF SS Finals six times. He has had numerous track athletes qualify for CIF as individuals and he also coached Stuart Serventi, 20’ to a school record 1:56.72 in the 800m in 2019. His 2022 Cross Country Team finished 5th in the Division 4 CIF Finals and was a State Cross Country Championship qualifier.
He lives with his wife Heather and their two sons JP (3 years old) and Finnegan (1 year old) in Arcadia.
